Sailing Away

Image
Not much to report today -busy packing and boarding our ship - the Celebrity Solstice. A beautiful sail away with Sydney, the opera house and the bridge as we cruised out. The serious eating and drinking starts now 😂😂

Taronga Zoo

Image
On my own today.  His Lordship has developed a man cold and is back at the house recuperating.  So just a little trip today to Taronga Zoo, a short ferry ride from central Sydney. So just a few animal pics today. Tree kangaroos Koalas - very boring to watch as they just sleep all the time!        No not a turkey wrapped in a fluffy ball but a Southern Cassowary. And, of course, you have to have some photos of kangaroos when in Oz (they are on the left by the way!) And an Emu to finish off. Tomorrow we board our cruise ship at Sydney Harbour.

Climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge

Image
This was the day I climbed the bridge - a wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone. The bridge is 440ft high and 1650 feet across. We climbed to the top and across to the halfway point - over 3 hours including the time to get togged up.  Not a very fetching outfit I must say!  However, the views are definitely worth it. My climbing buddies. Finally at the very top! A tour of the Opera House to finish off the day.

The Blue Mountains

Image
A trip up the Blue Mountains today. A thunderstorm last night has thankfully brought down the temperature a little (I realise that, reading this in the UK, you’d probably think I am very ungrateful for hot temperatures but this is definitely too much for me!). When we first arrived we thought the mist was really thick and we thought we would see nothing as you can see from the pic. However, the mist lifted through the day and we finally got some views. This is called the three sisters. This is supposed to be the steepest funicular railway in the world. Difficult to capture exactly how steep but all those seats that look laid back at the station are bolt upright as you go down! No idea why a photo with a stuffed parrot was necessary!! But a nice afternoon in an interesting park - even a bit of exercise up some steep steps - thank goodness for those gym sessions. Watch the blog tomorrow for the views from the top of Sydney Bridge.

Lazy Day in Sydney

Image
Boiling hot day and suffering from jetlag so not much done today. Starting off with a visit to a garden centre where there was a strange array of sculptures including this one made out of plastic milk bottles! A dragon lizrad Then off to a mega expensive shopping centre - some lovely food displays Finally some well earned rest and dinner at Caroline's house in the suburbs.                                                                  The invalid "helping"! Off to the Blue Mountains tomorrow for a more action packed day.

First Day in Sydney

Image
Hello everyone So here we are in Sydney - such a long journey to get here!  A few hours to get over the jet lag then, of course, we have to start with burgers on the barbie. Saturday is Australia Day so a lot of stuff going on down at the harbour. Those little dots on the bridge are people climbing it. That will be Joan on Tuesday! Blistering heat - a bit too much of a change from the UK. 32 degrees today. Time for a break from the heat in the park. And then on to the market - we decided not to buy the kangaroo scrotum key rings ! More from Sydney tomorrow.
